Massive security presence for World Cup final

The last day of Brazil’s World Cup broke with military police deployed all over Río de Janeiro to protect its streets, its beaches and the Maracaná stadium sorroundings ahead of the World Cup final this afternoon, when Argentina will seek its third title against Germany.

Over 26,000 military police has been deployed earlier today in the biggest operation in the history of FIFA World Cup.

They stood guard on every corner of the coastal avenues Lucio Costa, in Barra de Tijuca, Delfin Moreira, in Leblon, Vieira Souto, in Ipanema ant Atlántica in Copacabana.

In the meantime, a security forces’ helicopter overflew the city, now crowded with some 100,000 Argentine fans that have arrived to cheer for the national team.

Inside the Maracaná stadium, 1,500 private guards hired by FIFA will be in charge of security during the match.
