Agüero: ‘We can’t make the same mistakes we did in 2010’
Argentine forward Sergio “Kun” Agüero said today the German side will be “a great rival” for the Albiceleste in the World Cup final at Maracaná, and pointed out the team “can’t make the same mistakes” they made in South Africa 2010, when Argentina lost to the Teutons 4-0 in quarter-finals.
“Kun” affirmed Germany has a “very dangerous and aggressive” team, and recognized they may be favorites for Sunday’s match while saying that fact “works for Argentina because it puts pressure on the German side.”
“People say they are the favorites to win the cup. Germany is always a favorite when it comes to competitions like these. But that fact can work for Argentina, as it puts more pressure on them,” Agüero told reporters during a press conference today from Belo Horizonte.
“Also, keep in mind that we too made it to the finals. We earned it, so we must have something good going on for us,” he ironically added.
Asked about the last match between the two World champions, a friendly game played in Frankfurt which ended in a 3-1 win for Argentina, the Man City attacker said the final will have “nothing to do with a friendly.”
“A friendly is a friendly, a World Cup game is something else. We should watch instead what happened in South Africa in 2010, were they scored a very early goal with a header and that conditioned the whole game,” Agüero said.
“We can’t make the same mistakes we did in 2010,” he concluded.
