‘I thank all who supported me from the start’
Argentine goalkeeper Sergio Romero has thanked his family, friends and Albiceleste fans who supported him “from the start” after denying two penalties to the Netherlands and giving Argentina the first pass to the World Cup finals since 1990.
“I’m so happy; I want to thank everyone who supported me from the star, my family, friends, the fans, everyone who’s been supporting the team from the beginning,” Romero told the press after Argentina beat the Netherlands 4-2 by penalty kicks.
Romero was questioned by local press before the World Cup start, as he wasn't in the starting lineup of AC Monaco, his current club.
“Chiquito” denied two penalties to the Ditch side, becoming the hero in Argentina’s pass to the finals at Maracaná against Germany.
“It was luck. Penalty kicks are just luck. I felt confident and I had luck by my side,” Romero affirmed.
“We don’t give any advantages. We are a hard working, fighting team. We have our hope intact for the final match against Germany,” he added.
