US Secretary of State John Kerry congratulated the people of Argentina on the country’s Independence Day on July 9 and wished the national team good luck in Brazil’s World Cup.

“Our countries have enjoyed 200 years of common interests and shared values,” he said in a public statement.

“We share a commitment to strengthening democracy, promoting human rights, and expanding social inclusion,” the statement added.

On behalf of the US President Barack Obama, Kerry said his country “is proud to be Argentina’s partner in educational and cultural exchanges, science and technology, clean energy development, and space exploration”.

“The United States wishes all Argentines not only a joyful celebration of your independence, but also good luck to the Albiceleste team in the World Cup,” the document read.
