Bank workers' union chief Sergio Palazzo has confirmed that employees in the sector would stage a nationwide strike tomorrow, despite orders from the Labor Ministry to enter mandatory conciliation talks and avoid the stoppage.

"It will take place during all opening hours for the public because mandatory conciliation had already been opportunely ordered in the conflict for the 36 workers sacked in Tucumán and it was not adhered to by the province," the union leader explained.

Cabinet chief Jorge Capitanich earlier revealed the government's intention to head off industrial action through the conciliation order, stating that "The Ministry will take part in the issue" during his morning press conference.

According to sources in the union, a raise in the income tax floor and the rejection of the sacking of the Tucumán employees were the principal reason behind the strike.

“The income tax affects salary income, which is not profit, and it becomes aggravated by the lack of updates on the income tax floor,” the Union’s press secretary Eduardo Berrozpe said.
