Neymar out of World Cup with back injury

Neymar left the field crying after being hit in the lower back and was then directly sent to a hospital.

Brazil forward Neymar da Silva will miss the rest of the tournament due to a lower back injury suffered during today’s game against Colombia at the Castelao arena, the national team’s doctor, Ricardo Lasmar, confirmed.

Neymar will need 4 to 6 weeks to recover from a fractured vertebra after being hit in his lower back by Camilo Zúñiga at 86 minutes of the quarter final match.

The Barcelona forward left the field and was immediately sent to a hospital, where doctors confirmed the injury.

"We lost Neymar on that play, and based on what I've seen, I think it's going to be tough for him to play," Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari had earlier told reporters.

Brazil will face Germany in the semi-final in Belo Horizonte on Tuesday without captain Thiago Silva who was booked today and misses the game through suspension.
