US President Barak Obama today called US Soccer team captain Clint Dempsey and goalkeeper Tim Howard to congratulate them on their Brazil World Cup performance.

“Man, I just wanted to call and say you guys did us proud!” Obama said.

“You guys did great…you guys captured the hearts and imaginations of the whole country. The country is proud of you.”

Obama then asked Dempsey and Howard to pass his message to coach Jurgen Klinsman and the rest of the team.

The US reached the World Cup last-16 round, where they were knocked out by Belgium 2-1, after having qualified in second position from Group G, one of the toughest first stage groups in the tournament.
