CFK to visit flooded Argentine North-east
The President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner will visit “in the following hours or days” the areas affected by floods in the northeastern provinces of Misiones and Formosa, Cabinet Chief Jorge Capitanich said today at Government House.
In his daily press briefing, the Cabinet Chief referred to the President’s instructions to all ministers to ensure the necessary assistance to those affected, including food, matresses, blankets, and the proper functioning of evacuees centres.
Capitanich announced the president herself will be travelling to the affected areas soon, and pointed out that the government is working on a “fast, direct plan to repair the damages once the water levels drop [expected by July 5]”.
At least 14,000 people remain evacuated in Formosa, Misiones, Corrientes and Chaco while heavy rain that fell in the last few hours over the region has further complicated the situation.
