Foreign Minister Héctor Timerman reiterated Argentina’s claim on Malvinas islands before the United Nation’s Decolonization Committee today in New York and rejected the British “pillaging of natural resources of Argentine Sea”.

After Timerman’s presentation, the UN’s Committee urged the United Kingdom and Argentina to resume negotiations for a peaceful solution to the sovereignty dispute over Malvinas islands.

In a resolution, the Committee stressed that the solution for the conflict remains in the bilateral negotiating table, as the UN’s General Assembly has repeatedly established with broad international support.

The Argentinean Minister in turn ratified the country’s full disposal to find a peaceful solution to the dispute, a fact that has not been possible “as a result of the systematic refusal of the United Kingdom to resume negotiations.”

“It is imperative that the United Kingdom returns to dialogue as it did in the past,” he said.

“Argentina is not alone in its claim,” Timerman stated, pointing out the support the country received in the international community.

The Argentine delegation also took to New York a claim against British militarization of South Atlantic, which is being denounced by the government before the UN since 2012.

Timerman rejected the “arbitrary” explotation of Argentine resources by the UK, saying it is “contrary to international law”.
