Argentine fan shot in Porto Alegre after football argument

Argentine fans in the streets of Porto Alegre ahead of today''s Nigeria test
An Argentine fan was wounded in the leg by a gunshot and had to seek medical treatment in Porto Alegre after arguing with a Brazilian national this morning in the city's Cidade Baixa neighbourhood.

The injured supported was identified by police as Gonzalo Núñez, 35, and according to witnesses the incident was provoked by an argument over football in a bar during the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The Porto Alegre police's Military Brigade revealed that the individual was taken to the Pronto Socorro hospital for treatment on the gunshot wound, and that nobody had been arrested in connection with the attack.

Núñez received help from the Argentine consular service during his time in the clinic, as well as being visited by representatives of the nation's Security Ministry, who are working in the city.

The fan is one of an estimated 100,000 Argentines who have travelled to Porto Alegre, Río Grande del Sur, for the match against Nigeria. Just 18,000 obtained tickets through official FIFA channels, while a further 10,000 are believed to have gained stadium access through unofficial sales, paying between 700 and 1100 dollars per ticket.
