INDEC: GDP contracts 0.2% at start of year

The National Statistics and Census Institute (INDEC) has revealed that Argentina's Gross Domestic Product fell 0.2 percent in the first three months of 2014, compared to the same period last year.

A reduction in industrial and construction activity was pointed to as the reason for the fall, while slowing international trade also contributed to the slowdown, according to the state statistics agency, who calculated the figures using a new methodology which takes 2004 as the base year.

The year's first trimestre also showed a 0.8 percent reduction in GDP compared to the last three months of 2013.
