Teamsters launch unexpected cash transport strike

Teamster leader Pablo Moyano (C) (TÉLAM)

Teamsters' Union Associate Secretary Pablo Moyano launched a surprise cash transport walk-out last night, affecting cash machines, after threatening with a a “48-hour nationwide strike” if collective bargaining negotiations with business leaders and the government fail.

“Cash machines are not being loaded because the distribution is not being made,” the workers’ representative Osvaldo Gabrielli said in an interview with Radio América. “We demand a 35% wage increase and they [business leaders] propose a 28% increment”.

Teamster’s Union Associate Secretary Pablo Moyano in turn said “business leaders are always out of cash, that is why we launched the strike. The cash transport walk-out is unexpected and if we do not have an answer to our claims it will turn nationwide”.

Yesterday, the teamster’s leader had announced a national strike for Wednesday if the worker’s demands were not met by then, which would affect refuse-collection systems, security vans, and fuel transports.

The son of CGT leader Hugo Moyano expressed he does not foresee a will to negotiate by the businessmen of his sector, and blamed them for the possible stoppage of activities in the upcoming days.
