Argentina midfielder Ángel Di María fought back against critics of the team following a 1-0 World Cup victory over Iran, affirming that the team was on the right track despite a less than convincing display.

For the Real Madrid star, the nation's task was made almost impossible by the defensive Iranis, who "had all 11 placed behind the ball."

"You could see clearly it was impossible to enter, we looked for space everywhere. I was content with the team's performance, I think we are on the right track," Di María said during a press conference held today in Belo Horizonte.

"Everybody believes Argentina are not playing well but it is normal that against opponents who defend so much it is a little harder."

The winger also commented on Diego Maradona, who missed Lionel Messi's winner after leaving the Mineirao stadium early, and was criticised by Argentine Football Association (AFA) president Julio Grondona as a "bad luck charm".

"Diego has his opinion like we all do, we are thinking only about our own game, not focusing on what is said outside," he asserted.
