Messi: ‘The important thing is that we won’
Argentina forward Lionel Messi lamented the Albiceleste hasn’t been able to show all its potential in the World Cup so far, but highlighted the victory against Iran and said the most important thing is having qualified to the last-16 stage after the first two games of Group F.
“The important thing is that we won,” Messi told reporters during a press conference after the tight match against the Iranian side in Belo Horizonte today.
“It’s very difficult to play against a team that hands you the ball and just waits in their field. We created several chances though, but we couldn’t score,” he explained.
The Barcelona star recognized the team hasn’t played its best football yet, but said the qualification gives time to Argentina to “improve towards the final stages of the tournament.”
“We got what we came for: we made it to the last-16. Now we have time to concentrate and improve our game,” he concluded.
