CFK inaugurates new San Martín train stations
President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner inaugurated the extension of the San Martín train line service. For the first time in 20 years, the service will reach the Luján locality in Buenos Aires province. CFK was joined by Interior and Transport Minister Florencio Randazzo.
Ms. Kirchner and Randazzo visited the Manzanares station located in the Buenos Aires province district of Pilar. Both the Manzanares and the Cabred station in Pilar remained closed for two decades.
“It is a historic day not only for the inhabitants of Manzanares, for the City of Luján and the locality of Pilar but for all Argentineans,” the head of state said in a brief speech that lasted less than ten minutes.
The inauguration was part of the government’s renovation of Argentina's train system that involved also the purchase of 24 locomotives and 160 cars as well as the modernization of stations.
Following today’s rally, the President will be heading to the Bolivian city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra to attend the Group of 77 developing countries (G-77) plus China summit.
