De Felippe: ‘The players deserve this’
Independiente coach Omar De Felippe said yesterday that his players deserved the promotion to the First Division because “they gave everything” to fulfill the objective.
“Huracán is a team that came from a positive run during the last rounds, and didn’t come as we would like to. But the guys gave everything, that’s why they deserve this,” said the trainer after the game in which the Reds defeated Huracán 2-0 to be promoted.
De Felippe added: “To coach a big team in the National B is very difficult, because you have the pressure to win every game, and when it doesn’t happen it’s much more complicated.”
It was the third promotion as a coach for the 52-year-old De Felippe (Olimpo and Quilmes).
Independiente will join National B champion Banfield and second-placed Defensa y Justicia in top-flight soccer.
“I would like to continue, but the club has some things to correct first. My contract ends now, I want to enjoy myself and then I will see,” De Felippe said.
