Gestamp workers block Corrientes and Callao crossroad
A group of workers from the Gestamp company blocked the intersection of the Corrientes and Callao Avenues this morning, prompting traffich chaos in one of the most congested areas in Buenos Aires City.
The picket started at 8 am this morning with protesters demanding the reinstatement of 67 workers who were fired by the auto parts firm which has its manufacturing plant located in the provincial district of Escobar.
The administration of Governor Daniel Scioli issued a mandatory conciliation by the beginning of the month, allowing production to be resumed at Gestamp.
According to BA province Minister of Production and Technology Cristián Breinstentein the company’s 900 employees “were fulfilling their shifts,” referring instead to a “focalised conflict” involving only "30 workers."
It was that group that decided to block the Corrientes and Callao crossroad today and launch a protest camp at the headquarters of the provincial government in BA City in an attempt to setp up pressure on Scioli's administration.
