Scioli urges continuity after CFK presidency

The governor of Buenos Aires province, Daniel Scioli, has affirmed that he would continue with many of the policies put in place by President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner should he be elected as head of state in 2015, criticising political rivals' calls for change.

Speaking to La Capital, Scioli underlined that the most important backing he could receive from the president is in the solution of conflicts in the country.

"The best support I expect from the president is for her to leave the highest quantity of resolved issues, as she has been showing in her latest decisions," he explained.

Downplaying differences within the ruling Victory Front, the governor asserted that the plurality of ideas within the party was one of its greatest strengths.

"The Victory Front, and peronism itself are by definition broad spaces. Here we have to seek ideas, things in common," he stated.

"That is defending national industry, Argentine jobs, taking the country out of debt. My link with the people comes from many years ago; they have seen me work and suffer."

Looking ahead to the 2015 presidential elections, Scioli insisted that, unlike expected rivals Sergio Massa and Mauricio Macri, a vote for him was a vote for continuity in the Victory Front project.

"Other politicians have been saying that they want to change everything," he fired.

"Can you see me closing up the factories, taking away investment in education, family benefits, lowering internal consumption to pay foreign debt, taking away the kids' laptops? I am trying to gauge what the people expect from a democratic government, which is not total change," Scioli emphasised.
