Argentina far too strong for Trinidad in World Cup warm-up clash

Argentina captain Lionel Messi and right-back Pablo Zabaleta share a laugh during training this week
The Argentina national team have enjoyed a positive start to pre-World Cup preparations as they lead Trinidad & Tobago 3-0.

Rodrigo Palacio put the side into the lead just seconds before the end of the opening period while after the break, Javier Mascherano scored a rare goal to double the advantage and Maxi Rodríguez came off the bench to seal the comfortable triumph.

Alejandro Sabella's men were on top throughout the first 45 minutes, but were wasteful in front of goal and only pushed ahead when the Inter man headed home a corner in injury time.

Mascherano, meanwhile, was on hand to push home a rebound after Lionel Messi's free-kick struck the woodwork. Palacio was also involved in the build-up for the third goal, chasing down the ball to square for Newell's star Maxi, who converted with ease to put the result beyond doubt.

It was the first time the 'Albiceleste' took the field since Sabella finalised his 23-man squad for the Brazil tournament, cutting Ever Banega, José Sosa and Nicolás Otamendi from the provisional list.

In just 10 days, the nation will kick off their campaign against Bosnia & Herzegovina.
