Capitanich on BRICS summit: 'Russia's invitation leads the way towards effective participation'
In his daily press briefing, Cabinet Chief Jorge Capitanich referred to the Russian invitation to Argentina to attend a summit of the so called BRICS countries next month in Brazil and said it “leads the way towards [Argentina’s] effective participation” in the bloc.
“The invitation is to attend the summit in Fortaleza on July 15. It means an acknowledgement for Argentina but not necessarily that the country will join as a member country immediately,” Capitanich explained. But he quickly added that it “is part of a significant agenda to lead the way towards [Argentina’s] effective participation” in the BRICS bloc.
The Kirchnerite official said “there are objective conditions” that favour the country’s participation in the bloc –such as its strategic energy reserves- and pointed out BRICS’ potential to boost international trade.
