Díaz happy to leave River Plate 'at the top'

Ex-River Plate coach Ramón Díaz today said farewell to the club following his surprise resignation, refusing to give further details on what prompted him to step down from his post.

Speaking in a press conference convened in the Monumental Stadium, Díaz spoke just for a handful of minutes, only stating with regards to his exit that he felt his goals had been fulfilled at the current Final champions.

"My objective was to take River to the top and I believe we have achieved that," the coach told reporters.

"When I arrived at this club only relegation was spoken about and now it makes me very happy that River are leading at the highest level, winning what all the fans wanted which was the championship."

The former San Lorenzo, Independiente and Oxford United coach signed off by thanking those who had supported him through the 18 months he spent at the club in his third coaching spell; in particular the players, whom he stated were "the real stars of this success."
