Berni: Engine failure presumed cause of crash

Security Secretary Sergio Berni confirmed today that five people lost their lives in a tragic small aircraft crash in the Río de la Plata, while affirming that a failure in the plane's engine could have caused the fatal accident.

The government official, who supervised the helicopter rescue of survivors from wreckage located 10km off the coast of Uruguay, updated reporters on the status of those involved in the accident.

"We have just finished with rescue operations. Five people have been killed, and four rescued alive," Berni explained.

He added that two of those hurt, Ignacio Losa and Santiago Villamil, were being treated in San Fernando hospital, in Buenos Aires province. Paula Buery and Sebastián Vivona, meanwhile, were taken to a hospital in Uruguay, in critical condition.
