Sabella aims for top-four World Cup finish

Argentina coach Alejandro Sabella has affirmed that his objective is to put the 'Albiceleste' among the top four nations at the 2014 World Cup, as his charges began training today ahead of the tournament held in Brazil during June and July.

"We are planning to be among the top four. If we reach that stage, we are going to want more," the trainer told Clarín today adding that it was key to better quarter-final exits in 2006 and 2010.

"Afterwards we will make our evaluations, but we have to do better than what we did in the last few World Cups."

Sabella admitted that he was feeling the pressure in the weeks leading up to the competition, as he prepares to name his final squad of 23 players that he will take to Brazil.

"Sometimes you have to make big decisions and that creates tension. The list, for example. Once you do it, you can relax a little. The same thing happens to me when I put the team together. You have doubts and you change the formation, that doubt produces stress - at least in me," he confessed.

But the coach added that he has the luxury of choosing from an already-established group of players, led by Barcelona genius and Argentina captain Lionel Messi.

"The leader is the captain, which is Messi, and everyone is behind him. It is accepted that he is our standard-bearer, our example," Sabella explained.

"There are a lot of kids here who have played together at youth level. If you look over the Olympic wins [in 2004 and 2008], there are eight players. There is a great relationship due to natural football interests, which does not mean that the closeness of some means distance with others.

"Everybody gets along here very well, it is one of the things which can be felt in the dressing room."

Argentina are in Group F of the World Cup, where they will take on Iran, Nigeria and Bosnia & Herzegovina for a place in the last-16.
