Mayer, Berlocq & Delbonis advance to Nice Open last-eight

Argentine tennis star Carlos Berlocq
Argentine tennis stars Leonardo Mayer, Carlos Berlocq and Federico Delbonis all came up with victories today to qualify for the quarter-final stage of the Nice Open.

All three competitors triumphed over local challengers. Mayer overcame Edouard Roger-Vasseslin 6-4, 3-6 and 7-5, while Berlocq was too much for Nicolas Mahut, who went down in straight sets (6-2, 6-3).

Delbonis also went through without dropping a set, beating Paul-Henri Mathieu 6-2, 6-4 to reach the last-eight of the event in southern France.

The Azul native's reward for downing Mathieu will be a test against tournament favourite, the United States' John Isner, who vanquished compatriot Jack Sock 6-4, 6-3.

Berlocq will take on French veteran Gilles Simon, while Mayer faces the challenge of Spaniard Albert Montañés.

The Nice tournament is the last preparatory event before the grand slam French Open, which begins next Sunday.
