Arsenal de Sarandí could not extend their historic run in the Copa Libertadores, as a 0-0 draw this evening away to Nacional sealed their elimination from the tournament at the quarter-final stage.

The side coached by Martín Palermo needed a victory after losing the first leg 1-0 to the Paraguayans in Asunción. But despite pushing hard throughout the 90 minutes, they could not break through a stout Nacional defence and find the strike that would at least push the tie into penalties.

A frantic end to the match failed to yield goals, and the tie condemned Arsenal to an exit after reaching the last-eight for the first time in their history.

Nacional, meanwhile, progress to the semi-finals where they will meet the winner of Defensor Sporting's tie with Atlético Nacional. The 'Arse' become the second Argentine scalp for the club, who in the previous round also knocked out heavily-fancied Vélez Sarsfield in a shock upset.

San Lorenzo, meanwhile visited Brazilian giants Cruzeiro in Belo Horizonte and tied 1-1. However they ensured their ticket to semi finals after a 1-0 goal lead obtained in last week’s match.
