Scioli seeks peronist allies in presidential bid

Buenos Aires governor Daniel Scioli has affirmed that he will need the collaboration of every peronist provincial head if he is to succeed Cristina Fernández de Kirchner as president in 2015, singling out Córdoba's José Manuel de la Sota and Entre Ríos' Sergio Urribarri as key allies despite political differences with the pair.

De la Sota forms part of the dissident peronist movement opposed to the Victory Front administration, while Urribarri is expected to be one of Scioli's rivals for the presidency in next year's elections.

"I am very respectful of everybody and I will need everybody [in order to govern], be it De la Sota, Urribarri or whoever," Scioli asserted during an interview with Los Andes.

The governor also defended the government, stating that CFK will leave a country "in order" and highlighting the nationalisation of YPF as a key step.

"Everyone agrees with recovering energy self-sufficiency, but first we had to recover the petroleum company and later make a deal with Repsol," he considered.

"Now we can go for self-sufficiency, looking at the investments that can be created through a normalisation on the external front, which is what is being regularised. But we are not doing this at any cost, but rather prioritising the internal market; we are not taking out debt to pay debt, like in the 1990s."

Scioli concluded by talking about recent meetings between the president and City mayor Mauricio Macri.

"It is great for this to happen. Macri is the head of government in the Capital and there are a lot of people there," he stated.

"How many times have I met with Macri to deal with issues and a lot of times I was questioned, not by Cristina but by some others. If I work in a metropolitan area with 12 million people how am I not going to have a good dialogue with the Capital chief?"
