Kicillof plays down effect of inflation on prices

Economy Minister Axel Kicillof has affirmed that the movement of prices is a complex phenomenon, which cannot be fully explained solely by blaming the effects of inflation.

"The phenomenon of price movements is much more complex than inflation. Inflation explains the general rise in prices. It is true that some prices go up, but there are others that go down, as in the case of seasonal products," he signalled.

The minister referred to the government's Pricewatch program, highlighting its success in spite of fierce opposition criticism.

"Adherence has been excellent despite the fact that the opposition press and the opposition have worked hard to say that the program was a failure and the idea that inflation can be stopped only with regressive measures."

"Sanctions have come because prices were not shown, for lack of stock and for not adhering to prices. The state cannot watch prices alone," he added, in today's interview with Nacional Rock.
