Riquelme trains with rest of team; returns on Sunday
Boca Juniors captain Juan Román Riquelme was part of yesterday’s training session and will return to the first team for Sunday’s match against Lanús in maybe his last game at La Bombonera stadium with the club.
Coach Carlos Bianchi trained with Agustín Orión; Hernán Grana, Daniel Díaz, Juan Forlín and Emanuel Insúa; Cristian Erbes, Pablo Ledesma and Nicolás Colazo; Riquelme; Claudio Riaño and Emmanuel Gigliotti.
Riquelme, who missed last week’s victory over All Boys, trained alone on Tuesday and Wednesday, but yesterday took the reins of the team in the soccer practice.
On Sunday, it could be the last time the 35-year-old idol will play in front of Boca’s fans with the blue and gold jersey, as his contract ends on June 30 and the club officials have not decided to extend it.
Meanwhile, River Plate coach Ramón Díaz decided to give Marcelo Barovero the chance to return to the first team for Sunday’s clash against Argentinos Juniors.
The goalkeeper, who recovered from an injury that left himm off for four games, will replace Leandro Chichizola, who saved two penalties in three matches — including last weekend’s penalty against Racing in the last minute of play that gave River the 3-2 victory.
Colombians Éder Álvarez Balanta and Teófilo Gutiérrez also recovered from injuries and will return to the first team.
With only two rounds left, River shares the lead of the Final Tournament standings with Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata. Both teams have 31 points, while Estudiantes de La Plata and Godoy Cruz have 29.
