Arsenal still in contention despite Copa Libertadores defeat

Arsenal de Sarandi fell to a narrow defeat during their debut in the Copa Libertadores quarter-final, going down 1-0 in Asunción to Nacional de Paraguay in the first leg played this evening.

The home side, who surprised many observers in vanquishing Vélez Sarsfield to reach the last-eight, took away a slim advantage when Derlis Orué fired them ahead in the 35th minute. The difference could have been worse for a conservative Arsenal, who had Cristian Campestrini to thank for a saved penalty in the first half.

The Argentines, directed by former Boca Juniors legend Martín Palermo, will have the chance to revert the scoreline in the second leg, to be played in Sarandí. The return fixture is scheduled to take place on May 14.

San Lorenzo, meanwhile, enjoyed home advantage this evening as they defeated Brazilian giants Cruzeiro 1-0 in Bajo Flores, with a goal scored by Santiago Gentiletti, in the teams' opening clash of the quarter-final.
