Parodi swears in as new Culture Minister

President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner has sworn singer Teresa Parodi in as the new Minister of Culture, in a ceremony held this afternoon at the Government House, Buenos Aires City.

With the oath, Parodi was officially confirmed as the head of the new Ministry, created by Fernández de Kirchner through executive decree 641, ascending the Secretary of Culture to the rank of Ministry.

"We have been thinking for years that Culture should be given a higher ranking in order to contribute to the country's permanent construction," the new official revealed in a telephone interview held before the ceremony.

"[The ministry] is a brilliant place to work on this collective project that Cristina is leading."

Key members of cabinet like Defence Minister Sergio Rossi and Industrial Minister, Debora Giorgi accompanied the event, which also included the presence of personalities from the cultural and artistic life, like historian Mario “Pacho” O ‘ Donnell, singer Victor Heredia and Sandra Mihanovich, the caricaturist Rep and performer Horacio Fontova among others.
