Yemen says kills Al Qaeda militant responsible for French citizen's death

Yemeni soldiers inspect a bullet riddled car which was used by staff from the French embassy after it was attacked by gunmen in Saana.

Yemen said its security forces shot and killed a militant responsible for the killing of a French security agent in Sanaa yesterday, state news agency Saba reported.

The Yemeni Interior Ministry said the man, identified as Wael Abdallah Masoud al-Waeli, was the mastermind of a number of other attacks on Westerners, including the kidnapping of a Dutch couple several months.

Yemeni forces killed three members of an Al-Qaeda militant cell who authorities believed carried out a series of assassinations in the capital Saana.

A security source said a counter-terrorism unit raided a house in the Shmailah district in south Sanaa and killed the militants.
