Pope Francis to meet with Susana Trimarco
Susana Trimarco is the mother of Marita Verón, the 23-year-old who went missing in the province of Tucumán back in 2002. Marita’s has become Argentina’s high-profile human trafficking case. Ms. Trimarco will be received today by Pope Francis.
“This meeting with the pope is very important to share with him my experience as a mother of a woman who was victim of human trafficking and as the president of an organization that is responsible for the assistance and rescue of more than 1,000 women nationwide,” Trimarco told reporters prior to Wednesday’s gathering at the Vatican.
Marita’s mother also praised the fact that the Argentine pontiff has “publicly” showed his interest in fighting human trafficking crimes and raising the awareness of "global population about this scourge.”
On Friday, Susana Trimarco – whose daughter was never found – will be meeting the head of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, Marcelo Sánchez Sorondo, an Argentine bishop in charge of addressing human trafficking-related issues in the Holy See.
