Cristina, Macri together at Facebook opening

President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and Mayor of the City of Buenos Aires, Mauricio Macri, were seen in a rare public appearance together, as the politicians headed the opening of social media giant Facebook's new office in the centre of the Argentine capital.

During the inauguration, the head of state pointed out Facebook's possible use in tracking down the children of those disappeared during the last dictatorship.

"We are going to suggest some type of application based around identity and related to human rights," CFK asserted, adding that Facebook Argentina would add new gender options for users, who currently only have the choice of man or woman.

"This could be a crucial vehicle for everybody to have their true identity."

The event took place in the Republic Building, 1 Tucumán street, where the business has for several months carried out local functions. Cristina, as well as Macri, took 'selfie' photos with Facebook employees prior to the act, as well as praising the site's "technological revolution" and declaring herself a "permanent user".
