BA-La Plata highway tolls rise 25%

Starting from tomorrow, toll rates on the Buenos Aires-La Plata highway will go up by a total of 25 percent, in line with recent rises in the price of trains, plane tickets, petrol and cigarettes in the last few weeks.

The rise, announced today in the Official Bulletin, will help to finance construction works to build a third lane on the highway as well as further modifications, according to the statement.

Cars circulating in rush hour will have to pay 10 pesos in the Dock Sud and Hudson toll booths, while in normal hours the price will be 8 persos.

In the Quilmes, Berazategui and Bernal tolls, meanwhile, motorists will be charged between 6 and 7 pesos depending on the time of day. Goods lorries using the highway in rush hour will also be subject to an additional charge of 185 pesos set by the Infrastructure Ministry.

Among the works planned alongside the third lane is the construction of a monitoring centre to review security cameras, as well as a registration plate detection system to stop toll evasion.
