Argentina's polio immunization coverage 'satisfactory'
Following an alert issued by the World Health Organization on Monday over the international spread of wild poliovirus, the Buenos Aires province Health Assistance Director Luis Crovetto brought calm to society here saying Argentina had "satisfactory immunization coverage” against the disease.
In statements to media today, the provincial official explained the WHO alert was issued responding to the detection of cases in countries "like Ethiopia and Algeria" where vaccination coverage "is very low."
“Our country has satisfactory immunization coverage against the polio virus,” Crovetto told reporters adding that the National Immunization Commission was “permanently” working to tackle the spread of diseases that can be prevented and that will be informing on any “pertinent actions” people may need to follow.
