Berlocq upsets Berdych to take Portugal title

Carlos Berlocq celebrates his victory during the Portugal Open semi-final tennis match against Spanish player Daniel Gimeno-Traver
Argentine tennis star Carlos Berlocq has lifted the second title of his professional career following a surprise victory over Czech player Tomas Berdych, in the final of the Portugal Open in Oeiras.

Berlocq, ranked No. 62 in the ATP rankings, took down the sixth best player in the world in three sets, winning 0-6, 7-5 & 6-1. It was the first time the 31-year-old had defeated Berdych in four tour encounters.

In a match marked by sudden shifts in momentum, the Chascomús native recovered from a disastrous first set to break in the 11th game of the second. From there, he maintained his rhythm and raced into a 5-0 lead in the decisive set, losing his serve but subsequently breaking his opponent to take the crown.

Today's final was the third of Berlocq's career. The star lifted the Bastad title in 2013 and the previous year finished runner-up in Viña del Mar, all three of his appearances coming on the clay surface.
