Daniel Scioli against return of mandatory military service

Buenos Aires province Governor Daniel Scioli rejected the proposal to re-establish mandatory military service, supported yesterday by his Security Minister Alejandro Granados. “The civic service that we need to provide the youth with is that of education, sports, culture and microcredits,” the governor said.

“This doesn’t mean that the Military can’t offer some sort of social service,” Scioli added while praising the work of the Military in building roads and installing public lighting in different neighbourhoods.

In an interview with a local radio, the governor, who made a clear stance against re-establishing mandatory military service, said: “Granados never made a proposal, he was just commmenting on the subject, that’s all”.
