Gas company fined after investigation into fatal Rosario explosion

The August 6 explosion in Rosario left more than 20 dead and 60 injured.
The National Gas Regulatory Entity (ENARGAS) has ordered the Litoral Gas company of Santa Fe province to pay a fine of 6.5 million pesos, following the 2013 explosion in a Rosario building that left 22 people dead and 66 injured.

The August 6 tragedy, which also left extensive damage to surrounding areas, occurred at 2141 Salta street, in the centre of the Santa Fe city. A gas leak in the building was deemed to be the cause of the explosion.

The report released by ENARGAS today alleges that the entity found Litoral responsible for "13 serious infractions which had already been condemned."

"ENARGAS has penalised each of the infractions with the maximum fine allowed in the Regulatory Guidelines," the body explained.

According to the statement, the company responsible for gas supply in the province will also have to carry out a series of works in order to provide a more efficient service.

"The grave infringements by Litoral Gas and evidence from relevant testimonies mean that investigation and audits must be extended to other obligations that the distributor has to meet in the management of their public service and license," the missive signalled.
