Boca Juniors and San Lorenzo played a boring derby at La Bombonera stadium yesterday that finished with the visitors playing with nine men.

Carlos Bianchi’s side continued with its irregular season and the team failed again to show a performance that could satisfy the fans.

Boca, which is far from the top, counted on captain Juan Román Riquelme, who returned to the first team after missing Sunday’s 0-0 draw against Colón in Santa Fe.

San Lorenzo captain Leandro Romagnoli, one of the best yesterday, was shown a straight red card after committing a hard foul against Nicolás Colazo. Néstor Ortigoza was also sent off in injury time with a second yellow card to leave his team with nine players.

Edgardo Bauza’s team, which is also competing in the Libertadores Cup and will play in the last 32 round against Grêmio of Brazil, is now three behind the leaders.

“I’m satisfied with the team,” said Bauza after the game. “We made a great match because we blocked Riquelme and Gigliotti. Maybe they played a better second half, but we had a great match.”
