Top of table clash finishes in deadlock between Estudiantes & River

Final Championship leaders Estudiantes were slightly better than title rivals River Plate and could have put themselves in the lead with an early penalty, but the La Plata side were forced to settle for the 0-0 draw that leaves both teams well in the fight at the top.

The clearest chance of the game came from the penalty spot 37 minutes into the second half when River reserve keeper Leandro Chichizola, deputising for the injured Marcelo Barovero, saved Guido Carrillo's effort to keep the score level.

In a tough 90 minutes during which neither side gave great indications of going all out for victory, opportunities were sparse amongst the Final's two pace-setters. Early on Fernando Cavenaghi had one of River's best chances, but could not convert after an interchange with Ariel Rojas.

Estudiantes keeper Agustín Rulli once more foiled Cavenaghi after the break, while Carrillo almost stole the points late on.

After connecting with Franco Jara's cross, the striker beat Chichizola but saw his effort strike the post, confirming a 0-0 draw that promised more.

The draw means that Estudiantes remain top, although they now share the summit with Colón who overcame Newell's Old Boys 1-0 thanks to Lucas Alario's header. River lie one point back, while the day's big climbers were Rosario Central; the Canalla moved within three points of the summit to fourth after downing Atletico Rafaela 3-2.
