‘We face our problems, don’t blame others’

Hours before the national strike called by dissident unions, President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner said her administration and her husband’s were characterized by “facing problems” and not “blaming others,” during a ceremony held today at the National University of La Plata (UNLP) were she received an honorary degree.

“We are problem solvers. We face difficulties and don’t blame others,” said Ms Kirchner, who announced infrastructure works in La Plata and opened the new UNLP Psychology Faculty building.

The President dedicated the honorary degree to “all the people that studied in these classrooms and especially to the ones who are no longer with us,” in reference to the “disappeared” during the last dictatorship.

The Head of State was accompanied by Buenos Aires province Governor Daniel Scioli, and received a similar diploma with a post-mortem distinction for former President Néstor Kirchner.

“We accept this honor in the name of everyone who studied in these classrooms, and especially in the name of the ones who are no longer with us,” said Ms Kirchner, who was also awarded the Rodolfo Walsh prize in journalism, a distinction already won by Bolivian President Evo Morales, Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa and Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez.
