One dead after lightning strikes in Zárate

One dead and eight injured in two different lightning strikes.

A 50 year-old man has died today in Zárate after being caught by lightning while he was herding cattle together with a friend, police said.

El Cazador police department was informed by a 911 call and intervened in the incident.

The men’s identity was not revealed.

Meanwhile, at least eight people were injured today in a related incident, when a lightning impacted a field during a football tournament west side of Rosario province.

Deputy Civil Defence Director, Gonzalo Retner, stated that “two people were hurt with second degree burns in their bodies, while the rest suffered from minor injuries.”

The wounded were hospitalized in the local emergency Hospital Clemente Álvarez.

According to Retener, the authorities of the football tournament did not stop the game earlier due the lack of a specific weather alert, and they expressed that it was not raining at the moment of the accident.
