CFK unveils new Malvinas' 50-peso bill
Marking a new anniversary of the 1982 South Atlantic war, the head of state unveiled the new 50-peso bill that will carry a map of the Malvinas Islands. It is yet to confirm when it will be issued.
At the government house, President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner presented today the new bill in honour to the 649 Argentine soldiers who lost their lives 32 years ago, those who “gave their life for the homeland.”
A show of “historic, social and political vindication” of Argentineans’ sovereign rights over the disputed territories, CFK considered the decision to create the Malvinas bill that it will also show an image of Antonio "Gaucho" Rivero, a labourer who led a revolt in the Malvinas Islands in 1833, resisting the British illegally occupation of the resource-rich archipelago.
