Vélez reach the summit with Olimpo victory

Vélez Sarsfield continued their winning form with an accomplished 2-1 victory over Olimpo in Bahia Blanca, which lifts the Liniers side for now to the top of the Final championship.

Leandro Desábato, 22 minutes into the game, and Héctor Cantero, who hit seven minutes into the second period, did the damage for the Fortín, who have taken seven points from their last three league games on top of qualifying for the Copa Libertadores last-16.

Ezequiel Miralles, meanwhile pulled one back for the hosts, who could not take advantage of numerical superiority after Facundo Cardozo was sent off.

Vélez move up to first place in the Final with a total of 20 points from their first 11 games. Cólon, however, can overtake the leaders with victory midweek, while three points for either River Plate or Estudiantes would see them draw level at the summit.
