CFK calls for inclusion as solution to violence

President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner has called on Argentina to work towards social inclusion and reject calls for violence and reprisals, following a wave of violent civilian apprehensions of individuals suspected of committing crimes.

The head of state spoke from Government House, where she presented a new residence in Bariloche, Río Negro dedicated to the care and education of vulnerable people suffering from addiction.

"There is no better antidote against violence than making people feel included. I once said that when someone feels their life is not worth two pesos to the rest of society, we cannot ask that person that other people's lives are worth more. That is something we must understand," Cristina fired, speaking via public broadcast.

CFK underlined that the nation needed "faces and voices that bring calm, not voices that bring desires for vengeance, confrontation and hatred.

"We want everyone to call for peace, understanding, inclusion, and if there is someone who makes a mistake we must take them and carry them forward," she added.

"Violence will only beget more violence."

The president also spoke on the issue of narcotics, while recognising that "there is no single instrument or path to tackle an issue of such complexity."

"[We must] also end that myth, which everyone knows is a massive hypocrisy, that only the poor use drugs," she asserted.

"Drug traffickers used awful, low-quality drugs that destroy their brains, the rich consume the good stuff. Those with money use the good stuff. We have to say things as they are."
