Tournament leader Colón suffered a setback yesterday as its run of eight matches without defeats was cut by Arsenal de Sarandí.

Milton Caraglio scored in the 66th minute for Gustavo Alfaro’s side in its 1-0 victory at the Julio Humberto Grondona stadium.

Arsenal, which last Wednesday qualified for the knock-out stage of the Libertadores Cup, recovered in the league after four defeats and one draw.

Meanwhile, Colón, which fights against relegation this season, stays at the top with 18 points, while Vélez Sarsfield, Estudiantes de La Plata and River Plate share second place with 17.

“Arsenal deserved the victory in an even match,” said Colón coach Diego Osella. We never found the way to turn around the result.”

Earlier, Lanús, which came from a 2-0 loss against River at the Mo-numental, defeated Rosario Central 2-1 at home to be two points behind Colón in the standings.

Paraguayan Víctor Ayala and Carlos Izquierdoz netted for the host, while Federico Carrizo scored for the visitor.

“We dominated the ball almost the whole match, although Central had some important scoring chances during the first half,” said Lanús coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto.
