Judge orders end to teachers' strike, continued talks

Teachers protest in downtown La Plata.
A La Plata court has ordered striking teachers' unions to "cease immediately" strike action that has reached 16 consecutive days, while also ruling that the Buenos Aires province government must "assure the continuity of negotiations" over salary raises.

The judgement therefore confirms the injunction upheld by judge Francisco Terrier last Saturday ordering an end to the strike, which up to this point has been disregarded by educators.

Magistrate Vicente Santos Atela further ordered the government of Daniel Scioli to take all measures necessary to ensure the start of the school year, and not to dock wages for days lost to the strike.
