Del Potro undergoes operation on wrist

Argentine tennis player Juan Martín Del Potro (c) is seen after being operated successfully on his left wrist yesterday by doctor Richard Berger (r) in Minnesota. “Hi everyone, here I am, still sore from the surgery. Luckily everything went well...,” Del Potro posted on his Twitter account. His trainer Franco Davin (l) was also shown in the photograph.
Argentine tennis star Juan Martín del Potro today underwent a successful surgical procedure in the United States' exclusive Mayo Clinic, although it is still not known how long the operation on his left wrist will keep him out of the sport.

The surgery was carried out by Doctor Richard Berger, the same man that operated on Del Potro's right wrist during 2010.

In that instance the player was missing almost nine months from the courts and fell back to 485 in the ATP world rankings, after lifting the US Open in September 2009.

While it is believed that the Tandíl native could miss the rest of the season the severity of his injury is also uncertain. Del Potro himself has set the target of an October return.

The player had informed fans of the decision to undergo surgery yesterday on Facebook. "Logically, this is not the easiest decision nor the happiest moment of my career. I have the experience of a similar situation and I know how hard it is being out of the tour, the wish to be back, interminable weeks of recovery," he explained in a shared message
