Mar del Plata: Bus, taxi drivers stage protest, trigger chaos on long weekend's last day
Bus and taxi drivers in Mar del Plata coastal city were staging a massive protest today playing havoc with public transport and blocking accesses to the city and exits on the last day of a long weekend when thousands of tourists were trying to return to their homes.
A group of taxi drivers decided to block rout 2 in both ways and route 11. Workers were also obstructing the entrance of the main bus terminal in that city where hundreds of long distance buses were ready to depart.
According to Donato Cirone, head of a taxi union, the protests were triggered after a driver was shot dead amid a robbery attempt.
A group of bus drivers warned today protests might be extended until tomorrow.
