Metegol to be released in the US, France and Australia
MADRID — The Weinstein Company, one of the most important production and distribution companies in Hollywood, has purchased the rights for the film Metegol (foosball) for US, French, Australian and New Zealand release.
The animated film by Juan José Campanella, co-produced in Spain and Argentina, will be released in the US on August 27 with the title Underdogs, according to information released yesterday from production companies Plural Jempsa and Atresmedia.
The adventures of Amedeo and the foosball players was one of the biggest box office hits of the past year in Argentina and Spain, and was seen by over a half a million people. In Spain, the film took home the Goya award as the best animated film. for 2013.
The film has been released in almost all of Latin America and Poland and in the upcoming months it will arrive in Italy (April), Russia (June) and the United Kingdom (August), where it will be released by Vertigo Films under the title The Unbeatables, and will include the voices of Rupert Grint, Anthony Head and Ralf Little.
Over the course of the past Berlin Film Festival, the film was also sold to China. The Chinese release will coincide with the North American one.
